If twitter is good enough for Chris Pirillo then it's good enough for me. Now I don't have to learn RSS and still be on the cutting edge. Thanks twitter.

I'm not sure if I saw a segment for the Daily Show or someone with a sensible series of statements delivered in a quirky style with ironic bookends to his rant. Wait, that is the Daily Show. ICN is the biggest kept secret of this state and it may be true that Iowans by and large don't care the most amazing "wired" network is underneath their homes and highways. Certainly many of our schools, hospitals, and distance learning technology classrooms barely scratched the surface that has been available to them for nearly 20 years via the ICN. Privatize the ICN (even in part) doesn’t seem to be a reality so we look for free wireless in our neighborhoods from neighbors who don’t protect their routers that comes to them via cable companies and private telephone networks. Even some of us may do that to watch Battlestar Galactica from hulu.com on the weekends. I’m not naming names, I’m just saying that maybe some Iowans in small towns do that from time to time.

Great interview! It is a tough truth that locality has a lot to do with a healthy creative class and it's sad that Iowa can't seem to get on top of it.

In High School in Waukee, Iowa, the only time I remember using the ICN was to watch the Macworld streaming video when Steve Jobs unveiled the iMac. That and maybe one classroom session that was hosted across town.

Here in Michigan, the FCC is funding a similar network. I'm sort of pessimistic now that it's worth the effort unless they really push to educate people across the state about it.

One thing I have found to be valuable is the Lansing web design meetup, where the conversation occasionally drifts toward emerging technologies. It's great to help open others up to this new world.
