Why I’m going to BIG Omaha
I’m super-excited to attend BIG Omaha next week. (You wouldn’t know that from the video below, where I actually say “super-excited” three times in less than a minute.) The speaker list is amazing and I’m looking forward to making new connections.
Are you going? You should be. Go Midwest!
There are quite a few other folks excited about BIG Omaha, as well!
Make yourself more findable with a Google profile
This week Google announced that they will start including Google profiles alongside search results, meaning that if you set up a Google profile, it can potentially show up in a search for your own name. Sure, there are already organic ways to get yourself indexed in Google’s search, such as blogging and active participation in social networks, but this is the first time the search giant has ever let users manually “inject” something that can be visible right away.
In this week’s Area 52 video, I explain how to set up a Google profile, and how this benefits the search engine long-term. For more information on this change, check out John Battelle’s post on Searchblog.
Here’s a link to my Google profile, in case you want to check one out.
While you were out 2: The Interview
Nathan was out of the office traveling for business again today, so I decided to make another “While You Were Out” video. As most of you know, we’re gearing up to hire a few interns to join the Lava Row team this summer, so I thought I’d get a head start on the interview process.
Finding someone who is the right fit is really important to us, so let me know what you think of the first candidate that I decided to bring in. If you’re a college student looking for an internship and you think you’ve got what it takes to be a part of the Lava Row team this summer, check out the details on how to apply here.

WANTED: A few rock star social media interns to add to the Lava Row team this summer. We’re looking for people who are creative, innovative, personable and a little bit weird. You must be passionate about social media, technology and communications. The internships are unpaid, but you will be eligible for college credit. (We’ll also pay for your parking!)
